Here is a letter sent from one of our new venues of 2008; Aidan and his team organised the structure in Southern Ireland hosting the 2008 winning venue of the season. Well done to Youghal! it was an excellent opportunity for us all to join forces and work together to build a future for the Thunder community in Ireland.

Hi Fiona,

Just dropping you a quick letter to thank you for the incredible work you and your crew did for our recent Thundercat European Beach Challenge, in Youghal, Ireland. This was the first time an event of this kind has been held in Ireland and we had hoped that it might start to generate some bit of interest in the sport over here. Well, it certainly did that ... and a lot more!!

The figures in from the weekend (from a mix of police and official security statistics) showed that we had an audience of more than 65,000 over the weekend, and the local economy benefited to the tune of more than 2.2 million euro!! This is all the more incredible when you consider the atrocious weather conditions we had on the Saturday.

The phrase 'couldn't have done it without you' is often thrown about in such circumstances - but here it is totally relevant. As this was the first time that such an event was held in Ireland our stakeholders (insurers, police, ambulance, etc.) were particularly nervous about powerboats racing in close proximity to the shore, and as a result they probably over-supplied us with assets over the weekend. At the subsequent post-event meetings ALL stakeholders commented on how professionally run the racing was, and how they now view the sport in a far more positive light - this is all solely down to the manner in which you ran the operations over the weekend. You provided an amazing spectacle for the general public, and you gave the small community of Irish thundercatters a safe and understandable introduction to the sport. All of your team did everything in their power to assist our endeavours, leaving a positive impression on all of us.

As a consequence of your team's wonderful work over the weekend, we now have the confidence (and support) to begin to build a full Irish Thundercat racing series for next year.

On behalf of the organisers, and the racing community in Ireland, thank you for all your work on this, and I look forward greatly to working together again in the future.

Sincerely
Aidan Foley
