Thundercat Racing is an open series which means any boat and
engine that suits our rules are most welcome to join in the fun – Gemini, Ceasar,
Aquarius, Rat Cat, X Cat, Wild Cat amongst others. All these boats are suited
to the UK
and European waters. Forget having to have a berth in a Marina, with these
Inflatable catamarans you can fold them and put them on a roof-rack, folds down to less than 2m3 or keep
blown up in the garden, they are very easy to store when not in use. Weighing less
than 150kg including a 50hp out-board motor and accessories, they can be easily
handled by two people. The ultimate toy
for pleasure or to race!
- A
power to weight ratio of 340bhp per tonne puts these inflatable boats
firmly in super car territory.
- Capable
of handling rough seas and large surf. They have the capability but do you….
with proper training man and machine can be as one in the wildest of
conditions. Never worry about the boat being flooded as the water runs
straight through the aluminium transom. If you capsize the boat, with ease
you can right the craft similar to dingy racing.
- Excellent
fuel efficiency – due to its lightweight and tunnel boat design, a Thundercat
is over 4 times more fuel-efficient than regular mono-hull powerboats and
Jet skis.
- You
can use your car to tow – less than 300kg including trailer.
- The
catamaran design maintains stable whether stationary or at speed.
- For
Recreational purposes you can use the boat for fishing, water-skiing,
wake-boarding or for the sheer thrill get the donut out and have fun with
the kids… when its time for adrenaline just turn up and race, its as easy
as that!!!
Thundercat Racing is the most economic form of series that has no
restrictions to where you buy your rig, as long as your boat and engine are
within the rules, we enforce strict guidelines to enable a level playing field across
the sport, we are a non-profit making organisation so we are not commercially
trying to make money out of our teams, contrary we actively look for
sponsorship to help the teams and try to keep the costs to a minimum. With the enforced rules for the engine not being
allowed to have excessive modifications and to keep within the homologation
regulations plus only allowing a three blade through hub prop, we try to keep
the sport cheap and very cost effective but as this sport is ‘Racing’ and in the
true spirit of competition there is freedom for development of propellers giving
you the ability to test and try to gain the edge on your competitors, human
ability and experience of handling the boat coupled with set up of the boat can
make you a ‘winner’. Is that not the reason why people crave to race… who can
get that last hp more than the other teams... who will be on the podium… who
wants to be bumbling around in the pack… winning is all, second is first looser…
actually for me writing this I prefer to watch, not race but see a new rookie
team come into the sport and over the season go from last to maybe middle of
the pack by the end of the season… winning is not easy in this highly
competative series as competion to win is high.. But through time and trainer
you too can be on the rostrum taking the trophy! We race three disciplines,
Circuit flat water, longhaul endurance and surf… never a dull moment learning
to read the waters, looking for clean and safe racing.
Please note we do not run a ‘bumper car’ type racing series.
Safety for you and other competitors is paramount. This is a non contact sport,
safe courses and professional safety to watch over you is number one on our
list.
We are lucky to have a fantastic community not only in the UK but
globally, so if you become part of it and decide you want a holiday in South Africa
you can meet up with our friends and you are sure to have a wonderful time.. So
are we a sport yes but that’s only part of it, we are a lifestyle… Thundercats
the ultimate lifestyle! Our competitors range from 17yrs to 60yrs + whether you
do one race a year or the complete season... everyone is welcome spectators,
safety teams, as an official or being a racer… male or female, friends,
brothers and sisters, fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, husbands and
wife’s.. Are you a business person or a student? Over in the UK on work experience and race in
your own country but wish to keep on racing?… basically come and have a chat
and start living our dream.
We organise basic and national racing in the UK, as well as
