I would suggest Aquarius.

There is a 440 Aquarius Aquacat, same characteristics as the 4 metre but longer (+.40) and wider (+.20) which can have up to 90HP, and long shaft engines which is a big plus to-day.
Weight is very close to 400, just a few kilos for larger deck.
The transom, as for other Aquarius, is made of soldered stainless steel square tube, stronger than aluminium - less problems with ageing.
To use a short shaft engine, just remove/cut the 50mm raiser.
I have one, brand new, red color.

if you doesn't want a thundercat for racing - I don't kno if it could race with 400's -, the Aquarius 440 is definitely better, and you could use a Mercury seapro 55, or 4 stroke Mercury, or Evinrude Etec ... no problem with the motor weight, as it is with the 4 metre cats.
